O Captain! My Captain!

The meaning or message of this poem is that the poem is upset about Abraham Lincoln's death. He view him as a captain because he was a great leader of the country. He compare his death into a boat sinking since he is the captain he died. The mood the poem creates is depression because the poet is describing Abraham Lincoln as his father and how mush he means to him and the country.
I think the poet use repetition to show how he feels about Abraham Lincoln's assassination. He is calling him to see if he is still alive. In the poem he says he puts his arm beneath his head. The poet also describe him cold and dead. He sees his lips pale and still, he has no pulse or will. Other poetic devises that are used are metaphor. The meaning of this device is that he is caring and proud for everything Abraham Lincoln did.
